2018 Must See Landmarks in Seattle WA
One thing most people seem to want to know about when they are visiting Seattle is what landmarks they should be sure to check out. This article is devoted to answering that question from the perspective of a local Seattleite who has not only seen most of the landmarks, but has an idea of which ones are ACTUALLY worth checking out! So, without dragging this out any further, let’s get to the list!
#1) The Space Needle:
Alright, so this is probably the most obvious landmark in all of Seattle. BUT, if you are going to say you’ve been to Seattle and you have seen the sites, this one is not to be missed. For one, you’ll get an excellent view of the Seattle skyline and Puget Sound. But mostly, you’ll be able to say that you did it. It’s not a place you are going to spend all day at, but it definitely is a place worth checking out!
#2) Pike Place Market:
So far, so obvious. But, just like the Space Needle, if you are going to visit Seattle, you really should take a visit to the Pike Place Market. It is one of the most uniquely Seattle experiences that the city has to offer, and the energy level is great! Plus, if you like seafood, it is a pretty darn good place to get some fresh fish or crab! As an added bonus, be sure to check out some of the food that surrounds the market. Whether you are in the mood for chowder, fish, or even a Piroshky, you can find it all at Pike Place Market. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the original Starbucks while you are there (yep, it’s super touristy as well…but check it off your list while you are there!)
#3) The Seattle Underground Tour:
Not too many people know that where downtown Seattle currently sits, there is an old city right underneath it. Without going to deep into a history lesson here, the original City of Seattle suffered a massive fire many years ago that destroyed much of the original downtown buildings. When the city was rebuilt, it was done literally on top of the “old” Seattle. Tours are now offered that take you through many of the caverns and passage ways of the old downtown Seattle. It is informative, fun and a little bit spooky (beware the ghosts). Definitely worth checking out if you are in Seattle for any period of time!
#4) The Fremont Troll:
This is a good one. Underneath one of the bridges of I-5, you will find a massive stone troll. It is tucked away in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, but it is absolutely worth the trek to see and take pictures with. After all, how many places have their very own troll guarding the bridge?
#5) The Waterfront:
OK, so the waterfront itself isn’t exactly a Seattle landmark, however there are a number of landmarks that are along the water front. For example, you can get fish & chips and a hot bowl of clam chowder from Ivars, which is an absolute Seattle institution! Once you’re full, be sure to check out Ye ‘Ol Curiosity Shop, which is a great place to kill an hour looking around. It’s a store right on the waterfront and it’s known for it’s two actual mummies (located in the back of the store). See, I told you there was a reason you should eat BEFORE you go?
So, there you have it. Five great landmarks to check out in Seattle! I hope you found this list helpful, and enjoy! Just to reiterate, there are a ton of landmarks throughout the city of Seattle, so this list is nowhere near inclusive, but it is certainly a good starting point, especially if you are new to the city or have a limited amount of time to roam around!
