Seattle WA Chiropractor Discusses The Importance of Staying Hydrated!

Dr. Zapata here with Emerald City Spinal Care in Seattle again, back to share another Tip of the Week! As a chiropractor in Seattle, there are many times where I need to encourage patients to drink more water, for reasons that should become apparent later in this blog post. So, with this in mind, I am going to spend some time discussing some signs that you may not be drinking enough water, and the impact it can have on your body. I’ll also discuss some tips that can help you to stay hydrated!

  1. First, let’s discuss a few of the warning signs that you may be dehydrated and are not drinking enough water:The first warning sign is headaches. If you are feeling light-headed and have a headache, this is often times a sign that you are dehydrated.
  2. Another warning sign are food cravings. Whenever you have sudden food cravings, be sure to drink a glass of water before eating anything. Often times, when you are dehydrated, your body sends false messages that you are hungry, when really you are just thirsty.
  3. The third warning sign of dehydration is muscle and joint pain. Water is important for heathy joints and ligaments because your joints and ligaments contain 80 percent water! At the point when your body is dehydrated, your bones start pounding away at each other and that can create torment in the joints.

So, now that we have discussed some of the most common warning signs that your body isn’t getting enough water, let’s discuss some tips that can help you to stay hydrated and ensure that your body is getting the water that it needs.

  1. The first tip is to be sure to carry a water bottle with you at all times regardless of where you going. This will ensure that you will always have water available when you are on the go!
  2. The next tip is to be sure to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, since your body didn’t get any while you were sleeping! All too often, people leave this out of their morning routine and head out the door not having drank anything for 8 or more hours!
  3. The final tip I want to share with you today is to flavor up! What do I mean by that? Well, if you are the type of person that likes to drink everything EXCEPT water because it’s too boring for you, there are some ways you can add flavor to your water without adding sugar and other calorie rich things. Try adding limes, lemons or cucumber to help boost flavor and get you more excited to drink the water you need!
