Seattle Chiropractor Explains How to Stay
Healthy While Watching Football

Hey, it’s Dr. Zapata with Emerald City Spinal Care in Seattle! Today, I’m going to share with you three quick tips on how to stay fit and healthy while watching football!

Football season is back!! Now, whether you are rooting for the Seahawks, or some other team (boo!), the tendency for many football fans is to spend all weekend sitting on the couch watching the games and eating junk food. So, what I am going to do with you today is to share three simple tips that will allow you to enjoy the games while staying healthy.

  • Tip # 1:  Eat like an athlete, not like a couch potato. I recommend loading up on veggies and lean meats, such as turkey burgers instead of beef burgers and fries. Another great idea is to load up on nuts and seeds in place of potato chips.
  • Tip # 2: Stay hydrated. For many people in Seattle, football and beer go hand in hand. My recommendation is that if you are going to be drinking beer, try to make sure and drink a glass of water in between each of those beers, so that you can stay hydrated throughout the course of the game. Your body will thank you later in the day!
  • Tip # 3: Turn watching the football games into a workout. If you are a member of a gym that has TV’s along with the cardio equipment, consider watching the game while on the treadmill or elliptical. You’ll be amazed at how much longer you can stay on one of those machines when your attention is focused on the football game! Conversely, if you are planning on watching the football game from home, you can turn the football game into a workout. For example, I will sometimes do pushups for each first down.
