Seattle Chiropractor Explains The Best Sleeping Positions

Seattle Chiropractor Explains The Best Sleeping Positions

Hi, I’m Dr. Zapata with Emerald City Spinal Care. I am a chiropractor in Seattle. For 2017, we are excited to be launching a brand new Tip of the Week video blog, which is designed to share quick health and wellness tips with our community in Capitol Hill, Seattle and all over the internet to promote a happier, healthier you in this new year!

For this first tip of the week, we are going to discuss something that I get asked very often which is, what is the best sleeping position, or what is the best way to sleep? There are two sleeping positions that I typically recommend for people and one that I definitely do not.

The first one is sleeping on your back. That is the most ideal. The second best position to sleep in would be on your side. With those two positions, it keeps your spine as neutral as possible, and that’s very important when you’re sleeping.

The worst way to sleep is on your stomach. I don’t believe that sleeping on your stomach is ideal because in order to breath while you are sleeping on your stomach, you have turn your head to one side. When you think about sleeping with your head being turned to one side for an extended period of time, it can create a lot of abnormal muscle tension in the neck and the upper back, as well as other parts of the spine.

Thank you for reading our very first Tip of the Week, we hope you enjoyed it! For 2017, we are going to be sharing weekly health tips, so be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel or follow us on Facebook for more original content.

For everyone here at Emerald City Spinal Care in Seattle, thank you and have an amazing week!
